Here are the 7 steps you’ll need to take to set up your business in the free zone:

  • Find your business activity

    The first step to starting your business and getting a license is to determine the nature of your venture. There are over 2,100 business activities​ available to choose from, all falling into different groups within the industrial, commercial, professional and tourism space.   • Decide on a free zone

    As stated before, there are over 30 free zones in Dubai to choose from. The nature of your business can have an effect on which free zone you chose to set up in. Generally, it often makes sense to set up in close proximity to businesses in the same sector.

    DMCC – the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority on commodities trade and enterprise – has been awarded Global Free Zone of the Year 2019 by Financial Times’ fDi Magazine for a record fifth consecutive year.

  • Choose a company name

    When choosing your business name, it’s important that it conforms to the UAE’s strict naming conventions. Names that include offensive language, could be perceived offensive to religion, or refer to political groups or the mafia are forbidden. If you’re naming the business after a person, you’ll need to prove the person is a partner or owner of the company (no initials or abbreviations allowed).

    Naming your business could be a complicated process. You can save time and effort by consulting an expert to help you follow the conventions and get your name approved.

  • Apply for initial approval

    You’ll need to apply for initial approval to ensure that the Dubai DED has no objections to you starting a business so that you can get started in the next steps for your license. You can apply for this online, in person or through a third party (like through a law firm). The documents you’ll need to provide will depend on your business nature, but generally are:

    Business registration and licensing form

    • Copy of your passport or ID
    • Copy of your residence permit/ visa
    • The company's articles of association
    • Feasibility study of the project
  • Open a corporate bank account

    Once you’ve been approved and received back all the necessary documents, you can now open a corporate bank account. The UAE has many banks, both local and international, to choose from. These include HSBC, Citibank, Barclays, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Commercial Bank of Dubai and many more.

  • Set up your office location

    It's compulsory for all businesses in Dubai to have a physical address. Fortunately, setting up in a free zone will help you find your new office space easily.

  • Apply for final approval

    You’ll need to prepare all your documents, location addresses, and legal information to submit for final approval. In some circumstances, you’ll need to apply for licensing approval from other authorities. Once ready, you’ll need to submit:

    Initial approval receipt and all the previously-submitted documents The lease contract provided by the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) Duly attested service agent contract (for civil establishments and companies that are 100% owned by non-GCC nationals), the UAE involving a local service agent Approval from other government entities concerned Finally, you’ll need to pay for the license through various approved payment channels – and your business is ready to run.

Ajman Free zone

FREEZONE ESTABLISHMENT (FZE)

Companies obtaining a license under this category will enjoy the status of an entirely independent corporate entity. Documents Required with the Application Form:

  • Passport copy – valid for at least 6 months
  • Colored photograph
  • No Objection Letter from sponsor if the applicant is a resident of UAE
  • Visa copy or UID
BRANCH OF A LOCAL COMPANY

Free Zone Companies holding a valid license from any other UAE licensing authority are eligible for this license. Documents Required with the Application Form:

  • Passport copy of the company manager – valid for at least 6 months
  • Colored photograph of the company manager
  • Visa copy or UID of company manager
  • Trade License copy
  • MOA Copy
  • Board Resolution copy
BRANCH OF A FOREIGN COMPANY

Licenses under this category are issued to companies established outside the UAE. The ownership of the company will be 100% foreign. However, sales can be made through a UAE registered agent or distributor only. The activity may be commercial, industrial/manufacture or services. Documents Required with the Application Form:

  • Passport copy of company manager – valid for at least 6 months
  • Colored photograph of company manager
  • Visa copy of company manager
  • Trade License copy
  • MOA Copy
  • Board Resolution copy
FREEZONE COMPANY (FZC)

Corporate individuals forming a company shall be granted a license under this category. Activity can be industrial/manufacture, commercial or services. Documents Required with the Application Form:

  • Passport copy for each partner – valid for at least 6 months
  • Coloured photograph of each partner
  • No Objection Letter from sponsor if the applicant is a resident of UAE
  • Visa copy or UID for each partner.

  • An attested "No Objection Letter" from your current sponsor (if you hold a UAE employment visa)

If you're establishing a branch or subsidiary company, you will need:

  • A copy of the parent company's license
  • The parent company's certificate of incorporation
  • The parent company's memorandum and articles of association
  • A board resolution for opening the branch or subsidiary in Hamriyah Free Zone, mentioning the appointed director, manager and authorized, signatory and

Abudhabi Airport Free zone

Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone is a new global business address at the heart of Abu Dhabi Airports operations.

How to Start Business??

Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone offers simple and efficient procedures for setting up a business within a near proximity to the airports in Abu Dhabi.

STAGE ONE – Initial approval

The initial approval process is free and simple. To set up a branch company, we require the following:

  • Completed application form
  • Business plan
  • Copy of existing trade license/registration certificate (if you are an existing company)
  • Color passport copies of the company’s shareholder(s) and the appointed manager for the new ADAFZ company
  • 2 years audited financial reports for corporate entity or certificate of reference from a personal bank of the individual shareholder
STAGE TWO – Registration
  • Payment of registration fees of AED 5,000 or AED 7,500, together with license fees ranging from AED 15,000 and AED 50,000 depending on whether a service, trade or manufacturing license is required
  • Submit completed application for registration
  • Board resolution appointing Manager (notarized and attested)
  • Power of Attorney given to Manager (notarized and attested)
  • Memorandum & Articles of Association (notarized and attested)
  • Specimen signature of Manager (notarized and attested)
  • Passport size photo with white background of Manager
STAGE THREE – Licensing & Visa process:
  • Lease agreement to be signed
  • Once the above has been completed, we will issue the license immediately.

Step by step guide to setting up your company

  • Step.1

    Client: Access our e-services portal( https://masdarportal.force.com/Login) and complete initial basic information (name, contact details, type of business, …). You will also be required to propose a company name and make an initial online payment of AED 2,000 for the name reservation. MCF: We will review your information and obtain the required approval for the name reservation from the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. A email notification will be sent to you taking you to the next step.

  • Step:2

    Client: Access our e-services platform and submit the required detailed information and documents (see complete list here). MCF: We will review and approve all submitted information and documents. We will then issue your organization’s legal documentation through the system (Resolution, Articles of Association, Memorandum of Association). Our advisors will also reach out to you to present our existing lease options.

  • Step:3

    Client: You will need to sign the legal documentation and finalize the lease process and payments, by visiting Masdar Free Zone One Stop Shop or through courier service. MCF: Finally, we will issue your license and certificate of registration/incorporation, which you will be able to access on our e-services platform. (Required doc. Check list added in folder)
